Blue Springs, Florida is an absolute gem. Private launching just a few hundred yards from the spring inlet we were fortunate to be traveling in Dory, our all wheel adventure Honda element. She's equipped with an E-camper, courtesy of the thoughtful previous owner. This allowed us to park on a pretty steep hill, and we launched.
The park allows kayaks and paddleboards into the springs, restricting access between 11 am and 5 pm.. The crystal clear water and 72 degree temperature was a welcome reprieve from the Florida sun.
Fish and wildlife abound in the glasslike water, from large gar to crayfish, birds, and even a small alligator that was under the watchful eye of a springs volunteer, shooing us to relative safety.
A short paddle to the headsprings was lovely, and the float back through the maze of fish was delightful.
Just outside to the left of the spring entrance is a a lagoon ,and the manatees were in full swing. An amazing variety of flowers, waterfowl and vegetation reside here. Definitely worth checking out!
All in all a great paddle, come earl and bring a lunch.. Novice to expert, this venue has something to offer everyone.
